I am reminded of Robert Heinlein's repeated refutations of the equally silly idea that "violence never accomplishes anything." He pointed out the rather obvious fact that violence--naked force--has settled more issues in human history than any other factor. The cities of Carthage and Hiroshima come to mind, along with the Civil War and a few others. Never hesitate to heap scorn on a silly idea.
