You Know, It Is Possible That Iran Might Be Perhaps Lying About Its Nuclear Weapons Program. Maybe.

PARIS — The International Atomic Energy Agency, in an unusually blunt and detailed report, said Monday that Iran’s suspected research into the development of nuclear weapons remained “a matter of serious concern” and that Iran continued to owe the agency “substantial explanations.”

Gosh! They finally think Tehran’s hiding something? Hmmm…what might give them that idea?

Part of the agency’s case hinges on 18 documents listed in the report and presented to Iran that, according to Western intelligence agencies, indicate the Iranians have ventured into explosives, uranium processing and a missile warhead design — activities that could be associated with constructing nuclear weapons.

Yes, they certainly could. I’d bet the NYT reporter would have to work really, really hard to find anything else they could be associated with. Of course, they do have to maintain their healthy skepticism when talking about the potential innocent angels of Tehran. After all, they are objective news reporters and it wouldn’t do for them to draw any reasonable conclusions from a preponderance of evidence.

The story also notes that the program has heavy military involvement, which has the IAEA simply scratching its chin in bafflement about Iran’s intentions. Yep, it’s a puzzler all right. What could result from a totalitarian military being involved in explosive, missile warhead, and uraniun production programs? Perhaps for a clue, the IAEA or the Times could turn to The Collected Speeches about Getting A Nuke and Blowing Israel Into Radioactive Dust, Third Edition by Madmoud Ahmadinejad for additional clues.
