The Horror of Chinese Tyranny is Expressed in Dead Children

| May 27, 2008 | Comments (0)

I can not imagine the depths of sorrow a parent must experience after the death of a child. Imagine, though, what it must feel like to have to beg permission from your own government in order to have another child or to have your second “illegal” child, whose very existence you kept from officials lest you be severely punished, certified as legal?

Now imagine that knowing that the school in which your child died was of ludicrously sub-standard construction and wasn’t regularly inspected. Now imagine walking past barely-damaged, well-built, well-funded, regularly-inspected government buildings and schools for children of elite party officials and other VIPs to beg for your basic human rights.

I can not get my mind around that. But I do think about it every time I hear someone softpedal the tyranny that crushed the Chinese people every day. I wonder whether they are ignorant of what is happening there or if they simply don’t care all that much.

(Edit: I edited one paragraph to make the sentence structure flow better. Nothing substantive changed)
