The Big Government Cash Machine Marches On, with Conservative Help

| May 21, 2008 | Comments (1)

Over the past couple of months, I’ve been getting regular updates from a young and very promising member of Congress, Thaddeus McCotter. He’s a conservative who had taken a pretty strong stance against wasteful government spending and for smaller more effective government. He’s invented some innovative ways of bringing conservative principles back to the attention of Republican leaders like John Boehner and I’ve generally been impressed with what he’s been trying to accomplish.

So it’s a real shame today that I report that he can, in fact, be bought. All it took was a little cash for home in a 300 billion dollar travesty of a farm bill for him to help override the veto President Bush issued just a few hours ago. Said McCotter:

“Twenty-five percent of my state is now in need of food assistance,” said Rep. Thaddeus G. McCotter, R-Mich. “I work for them, not for the president.”

McCotter’s pretty hip to more modern references. I’m sure he’s familiar with the expression “A brother’s got to get paid”. It looks like he got paid well.

I will say here that I sent an e-mail to McCotter’s office asking for a statement on his vote. I hope he will respond and that he will agree to let me share the response with you here. I’m interested in seeing what he has to say.
