Mark Finklestein over at NewsBusters seems baffled that Mika Brzezinski would summon Pat Buchanan to the airwaves, Pokemon-style, to defend her father from a scurrilous mention in the Jerusalem Post. Mika’s father is the former Carter-admin national security advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski about whom I have opined in the past.

There really isn’t much difference between Brzezinski and Buchanan when it comes to Israel. Both men believe that there’s a shadowy Israel lobby that has an undue influence over our foreign affairs. Both men heartily endorse full negotiations with nations such as Iran and Syria which are daily plotting ways to kill Jews. Both men have been far more condemnatory toward Israel in recent years than of the nations and people who have been blowing up Israeli women and children in marketplaces and schoolyards. More importantly, both men have been fighting tooth and nail for almost six years to destroy the Bush Doctrine so we can go back to the old ways of realpolitik, that wonderful foreign policy that had up propping up any old dictator we could find so long as he did what we wanted. Neither of them have seemed to care that we ended up with a few thousand dead Americans thanks to it nor that an entire region of the country grew up to hate us as hypocrites and oppressors. And why should they, when they have friendly cover in the form of Zbiegniew’s daughter under which to fly.

It doesn’t strike me as odd at all that Buchannan would fly to the rescue of Brzezinski. They’re two old crusty peas in a cynical pod.
