McCain Makes a Judicial Pitch for Conservatives
Do your best to ignore the blatant bias in this AP article and just take away from it the point that John McCain hasn’t exactly given up trying to court conservatives. He’s chasing us down on something he knows matters to us a great deal: federal judges. He even pressed his old buddy Fred Thompson, still a darling among conservatives, into service on the issue.
Today, upped the ante with a big speech at Wake Forest, surrounded by folks who are supposed to make voters like me all warm and happy: Ted Olson, Sam Brownback, and Fred Thompson. Michelle Malkin has the text of his prepared remarks and asks two very simple questions: “Do you trust him? Can you trust him?”
My answers are just as simple. No and no.
John McCain talks a great game when it comes to judges but he’s shown plenty of times that he believes the law is something that can either be avoided or just trampled to suit his own whims. This belief that he, thanks to his superior judgement, stands above folks like you and me is at the core of where he stands on free speech, immigration, and the proper role of the Senate in confirming judges. He may talk like a conservative, but his actions are anything but. There are plenty of Republicans who don’t like that, but it doesn’t make it untrue.
Do I trust him? Heck, no.
Can I trust him? Not until his actions start to match his words.

Unfortunately, his time to "show" us has long passed. He showed us what he was made of while in the senate…..and it's the same stuff Democrats are made of.
Lori – That's what I've seen, too. He's had chances, on the campaign trail, to make up for his progressive mistakes and he's refused.
You know what's sad too….Rudy, Mitt or Fred could have each one made mince-meat out of Barack. But McCain won't. Which is why he'd better shore up his Democrat voter pool, because his base (the media) loves Barack more than they love McCain. Pretty sad that as poor as the dem candidates are, we will still lose because we are running a wannabe democrat.
