I’m Tired of Jeremiah Wright
Over the last few days Barack Obama’s spiritual mentor and former pastor Jeremiah Wright gave a couple of speeches that have provided a near-endless wellspring of hatred and ignorance. I”m not going to dive into the speeches. If you’re interested in what he said, and how a reasonable person who doesn’t have their head so far up a candidate’s tail that they can’t tell whether the sun’s out or not, you can read thispost by Robert McCain, this one from Velvet Hammer, and this one from Michelle Malkin (who watched Wrights entire speech today live and should get a medal for it).
I suppose, being a blogger in good standing, I should get into the game and tear into Wright’s speeches. To be honest, though, I’m just tired of him. I watched a bit of each speech and scanned the transcripts and, you know what? Wright isn’t a maverick. He’s not some brave truth-teller revealing something amazing to his gulled congregation. He’s just another old, tired racist who found out that if he flipped the words “black” and “white” the other way around, he could make himself quite a pile of money out of hate that’s as old as humanity.
The fact is, nothing Jeremiah Wright is saying would be out of place at a Klan Rally if he were saying about blacks the things he says about whites. They’d cheer him just as loudly as he’s cheered now. His anti-Semitic bile would fit in really nicely in any neo-Nazi publication without much editing at all. He calls it “black liberation theology” but really it’s the same hodgepodge of long-discredited pseudo-science, garden-variety bigotry, and old left anti-Semitism that has been swirling around wrecked minds for hundreds of years, if not longer.
Nowadays, when I hear that Wright has said yet another stupid thing, surrounded by fawning MSM personalities and self-serving politicians, I just shrug to myself. We’ve come a very long way in this country – farther than any other country has ever come toward creating a truly open and equal society – but we’ve not come so far that a charismatic hate-monger won’t find themselves an audience and a cadre of willing assistants ready to spread the news. It is an unfortunate fact of human nature that bigotry and stupidity can always be wrapped up in a pleasing package and sold to the gullible and foolish.

I am tired of it too but it is useful because it will continue to chip away at Barak's claim that he never heard Wright say things like what was being played from the sermons. It will become clearer (in case anyone still has any doubt) that the man oozes this drivel at every opportunity. You can't know him & not know what he's about.
That said, if you are bored, I don't think you have to cover it since obviously the media is on top of it now. Kind of frees you up to comment on stuff that is getting less attention.
I don't know that's it's doing any real good one way or the other, Lori. It's not like Wright's more of a bigot the more of h is speeches we hear. The more coverage he gets the more his star seems to rise among people who are getting almost no criticism save from a few folks like me. Heck, CNN practically curled up in his lap and cooed like a drunken starlet the other day.
I'd rather we treat him like we treat every other garden-variety bigot – yawn and shun. We ought to do the same for the folks who treat him as an honored intellect. Bill Moyers ought to slip farther into onscurity. The press folks who invited Wright in to give his speech in front of a raucuous friendly crowd should never see another legitimate and decent speaker in their hall again.
As for Obama, he has problems aplenty. I don't think we need to hear more from Jeremiah Wright to know that Barack hitched his wagon to a reprehensible fool.
>>The press folks who invited Wright in to give his speech in front of a raucuous friendly crowd>>
I've wondered about this…I've heard that the main floor was not press, that the press was in the balconies. I know nothing about the structure of the place, so I don't know if this is factual or not. I _would_ like to hear more about the make up of that crowd, though. I know that the press is generally pro minorities, but the applause and the calls of approval just didn't sound all that likely to me. His speech was _so_ racially biased, and there really aren't that many blacks in journalism…has anyone seen anything about the just who exactly was in that audience? I've seen statements of "it was all sold out", "it was open to press only", "Wright had his supporters there", and that some large press organization (non-Wright-friendly) was told that there were no more openings. But no facts to grab hold of.

Not. He's getting totally spanked from the left, too. See here:

"old left anti-Semitism"
You seem to be referring to some historical reality, but I can't figure out what it is. Jews have been a big part of the left for a long time, much more so than the right (listen to some Nixon tapes to get a better idea).
>>Jews have been a big part of the left for a long time, much more so than the right>>
You're correct – but it's still the left that is anti-semite at the moment. Maybe the Jews just haven't recognized it – just as the blacks haven't recognized that it's the Dems who have been most biased. The Dems do have good PR – that's a fact…and can spin even the most biased stuff into silk. I admire them for that even as I despise them for their deception.
sue, it was the American left that was anti-Semitic in the past as well. It was also the progressive movement in Europe that was rabidly anti-Semetic. Ditto for European socialists. Classical liberals, the folks you'd call conservatives around here these days, were much less traditionally so than their counterparts.
suck: "it’s still the left that is anti-semite at the moment. Maybe the Jews just haven’t recognized it"
So you're calling US Jews (and blacks) stupid? That's pretty hateful in itself.
No, really, what the heck are you basing that on?
J: "it was the American left that was anti-Semitic in the past as well"
Who? When? Don't leave me hanging.
"It was also the progressive movement in Europe that was rabidly anti-Semetic. Ditto for European socialists."
Ditto above question. And then why were so many Jews socialists? There have always been fascist orgs happy to take in the anti-Semites of Europe, who were sworn enemies of the socialists.
"Classical liberals, the folks you’d call conservatives around here these days, were much less traditionally so than their counterparts."
Ditto x3. You mean like Henry Ford?! Which "counterparts" are you referring to?
