To do so would require him to stop insulting his own party (whom he hates) for a minute and play hardball with the democrats (who he loves) for confirmations. I'm pretty sure he won't go to the mat for even a very moderate justice who has extremely good potential of turning lefty once appointed. If he appoints anyone who has ever held a right-leaning position on any issue, the Dems in congress and the press will be wailing...and in order to pacify them, he will withdraw the nomination because it is the "bi-partisan" thing to do. And remember, bi-partisanship to John McCain means always agreeing with the left while making your own party eat the excrement sandwich.
