Obama, the War in Chicago, and More Gun Stupidity
It’s looking like a sectarian war is going to be impossible to avoid as the violence ramps up to pretty serious levels in…Basra? Najaf? Baghdad?
Nah, this is happening right in Chicago, Barack Obama’s very own backyard. Nine people have been killed in 36 different shootings just this past weekend. The police are laying 14 of them at the feet of the gangs, but as many as 33 of them could well be gang-related. And it’s only getting worse. As the temperature heats up and school lets out, the gangs are going to get even more active and will be flush with soldiers. That’s when the war between the sects is really going to get bloody.
And the entire city will be hostage to the violence. The police can not, and will not, be able to put a dent in the fighting. That’s not what police are built to do. The poor citizens of Chicago can’t defend themselves, since the city decided it was wisest to disarm them (handguns are illegal in Chicago and you need a special permit to own a shotgun) and leave them to the tender mercies of the criminals who have no problem breaking yet another law. The Police Superintendent has come out with the bold idea that assault rifles are the problem, so he’s asking lawmakers to ban them, even though the total number of murders that are known to involve an “assault rifle” is one.
So it looks like a long and very bloody summer in Chicago. One wonders when the Obamessiah is goign to address the problem ready to explode where he’s lived and worked as a “community activist” with the same sort of warmed-over pap he’s used to address our war against the terrorists in Iraq.
(via Darleen at protein wisdom who asks if Obama’s ready to call for an immediate withdrawal from the quagmire).

J: "The police can not, and will not, be able to put a dent in the fighting."
What makes you say that? From the article:
"In response to the bloodshed, Chicago police are making a show of force, deploying SWAT officers — something the department usually doesn't do until the summer — focusing more attention on areas where gang retaliation is likely, and increasing their presence at schools."
