Quintuple Your Income in One Year? Now That’s Sacrifice!

| April 17, 2008 | Comments (2)

God Bless Michelle Obama, the gift that keeps on giving to bloggers. She went on Steven Colbert’s show a couple of nights ago and said that she was “…willing to make the sacrifices” to get into the White House.

Well, that’s certainly gratifying. Goodness knows we wouldn’t want our First Lady to just waltz into the White House without subjecting herself to some privation. I’d suggest, though, that the best time to volunteer for “the sacrifices” is not the night before America finds out that your combined household income last year was 4.2 million dollars. Some cynical citizens who have not fully drunk deeply from the pitcher of hope and audacity might note that the Obamessiah’s campaign might just have had an influence on the sale of the books that quintupled your income in one year.

These same cynics might note that the profits from those books accounted for 4 million dollars of the income and that his Senate salary was about 150,000 dollars, which pretty much adds up to the 4.2 million. Then they might ask where Michelle’s earnings were for the entire year of 2007 and whether the lack of an income-producing job might indicate that she’s just a little less “one of us” than she’s been claiming. I don’t know of too many women who can afford to tool around the country for an entire year telling everyone what gritty, hard-working, average Americans she and her husband are. Then again, maybe I’m living in a different America where snooty elites shouldn’t be putting on sackcloth and trying to act like one of the proles in a blatant suckup move to get a few votes.

In what context did she say she was "willing to make the sacrifices"? I doubt it had anything to do with not collecting on B's book sales. Probably something more along the lines of going thru all the crap involved in campaigning.

"I don’t know of too many women who can afford to tool around the country for an entire year telling everyone what gritty, hard-working, average Americans she and her husband are."

Most political spouses do that. The only notable exception I can think of was Howard Dean's doctor wife who kept working. And please find me the quote of Michelle saying that B was "gritty" or "average". And I'd love to hear how you justify saying that they've been "putting on sackcloth and trying to act like one of the proles".

How much did McCain or Romney or even your sainted Fred make last year? And where the hell were their wives?

Why won't Mrs. McCain release her taxes like Theresa Heinz Kerry did?
