silvio_berlusconi.jpgSilvio Berlusconi, conservative leader and friend of freedom, is back in the saddle in Italy in a pretty decisive fashion. Apparently, the people of Italy could only stand so much of the tiresome Socialists who have spent the past two years driving the country into a ditch.

For those of you keeping score on the “George Bush is alienating our allies” front, that’s five major countries who have elected pro-US leaders in the past two years and three who have turned out expressly anti-US leaders in favor of those who are more like George Bush than even George Bush. Add Berlusconi to Merkle and Sarkozy and it’d probably be all right to throw a little party for the good guys. Berlusconi was widely known for taking a hard line against tyranny and Islamism, a stand that’s gotten him at least one death threat, and there’s no reason to believe he’ll be different.

The whole thing is enough to set See-Dubya to dancing!

Me, I prefer a different boogaloo.

UPDATE: The Caucus Blog, from the New York Times, has a neat little tidbit about the guy Berlusconi beat. His campaign motto was “Yes We Can”, in Italian, of course, and he wrote the introduction to the Italian language edition of the Obamessiah’s book.

John McCain, take note.
