Obama Will Cure Your Opiate of the Masses Addiction!
Shorter Barack Obama clarification:
What I really meant to say is that it’s just fine with me if religion is the opiate of the ignorant and bigoted masses. Guns, too. Heck of an opiate. And hating on brown people? What backwoods inbred hick doesn’t need him some foreigner hate once in a while just to make the evenings pass faster in Bitterville, USA. Really. It’s all good.
That’s not a bad explanation if you’re sitting in a law class at, say, Harvard or Yale and you’re completely surrounded by other progressives and you’ve never really known anyone other than progressives in your young life. That would get you an A++ on any paper you turned in to your progressive professor. It’s not such a good explanation if you’re an adult and you live in an adult world with adult responsibilities.
The flaw in Obama’s explanation is that, well, America doesn’t work that way. Real people don’t “cling” to religion; they worship in reverence and joy. They don’t “vote about guns”; they cherish and protect a Constitutional right. They don’t turn to their families and communities to assuage their anger; they love their families and look after their neighbors because that’s what decent people do.
Obama simply doesn’t understand that because he’s been so marinated in the soulless cynicism of Marxism and the perniciousness of progressivism that says that these things are simple placeholders. Faith, family, community, and even individual rights are simply things to pacify the proles until they can be educated by their betters. They keep the masses fat, dumb, and happy until they can be taught that the State is their mother, father, and God. The small town America that exists in Obama’s mind is one created a very long time ago by people with names like Karl and Josef and Benito and Franklin and Woodrow. If we are not careful, though, it is an America that Barack Obama and his progressive comrades will create, whether we like it or not. He longs to cure us of our independence, entrepreneurial spirit, faith, and sense of community. He shouldn’t get the chance.
