Michaeal van der Galien is shocked – shocked! – to find that the MSM is calling Barack Obama “arrogant”. A level of arrogance, he rightly points out, comes with the territory.
You have to be arrogant if you run for president. He’s a likable guy when he wants to be a likable guy, when it’s in his interest to make you like him. But other than that, he’s probably an arrogant jerk. Problem is: every single person running for president, or at least those who have a real shot at winning it, are like that. To single Obama out is ludicrous.
The reason Obama is special is because the MSM built him up, so they feel obliged to knock him down. That’s the age-old relationship between politicians and the press. They may look like friends, but they’re not and they never will be. They exist in a symbiotic arrangement wherein each uses the other. Politicians use the MSM to advance their goals and, when it suits them, they’ll turn on their “friends” without a moment’s thought. The MSM does the very same thing. So it is with the Obamessiah. He relied on the MSM to essentially ignore his failings and push his message of hopenormous changitude and they did. That, however, is the old story and, besides, folks were getting tired of hearing about how he made the lame to walk again and caused the blind to see. So now there’s a new story and this time, it’s the MSM getting what it wants.
The thing is, I don’t see the Obamessiah as arrogant. I actually think he’s a fairly humble guy who genuinely believes most of what he says on the stump. I also think he’s more than a little naive and way out of his league in this election. As I’ve said before, he’s never really faced a serious electoral challenge and this primary season has been the first time in his life he’s not been playing with a home field advantage. He’s now learning that, as the saying goes, politics ain’t beanbag. Perhaps he’ll make he adjustment but it doesn’t appear that way. I wrote earlier that I don’t think he’s ready for the big-leagues. This week seems to prove my point.
