Congress Votes to Spend More of Your Money on Their Perks and Treats

schwein.jpgYou think you have economic trouble now? Wait until the Democrats raise your taxes. Again.

What’s truly funny about this story is that the Democrats say they can balance the budget by doing nothing more than waiting for the Bush tax cuts (you know, the tax cuts that largely pulled the country out of one recession already) to expire…in two years. Magically, that’ll make the more than 3 trillion-dollar budget just fine. I expect there’s some sort of line item in the budget for producing pixie dust and a Federal Star-Wishing Progam because they’ll need all the help they can get to make that little fantasy get off the ground.

Meanwhile, they’ve made very sure to stuff that budget as full of pork and voter bribes as they possibly can. This year, as I wrote not very long ago, every single member of Congress will control $5,794,392,523.36. That’s the part that’s not very funny at all. There is no very good reason for that amount to be so large. No one can make a case that isn’t steeped in the ridiculous and repressive much of progressivism for a government that takes your money from you because it believe it knows how to spend it better than you do. And, in best aristocratic fashion, Congress is much more comfortable acting like feudal lords – receiving the supplicants, accepting their gifts, and dispensing the fruits of the land to those they favor most – than they are acting like citizen legislators or responsible stewards of your money.

So think about what the Democrats have just done by approving this budget and refusing to ban earmarks. They have voted to take more money from you so they can give more money to people who fly them on trips and buy them “gifts”. They are gaining power by taking your money and spending it where they please instead of where you please.

Remember that in November. Remember who is taking your money for their pleasure and who wants you to keep as much of your money as possible.

Republicans were equally against cutting back on earmarks. Your phrasing implies that it was primarily a Democratic initiative.

They weren't equally against it. There are more Democrats in Congress than Republicans. If they wanted a smaller budget, there wouldn't be a thing Republicans can do about it.

the thing that stinks about being in power is that you're responsible for what gets passed. The Dems are on the hook for this.

Unless you're okay with saying that the Democrats are equally as responsible as Republicans for approving our taking down Saddam Hussein, or for the Patriot Act.

I think it was pretty clear that I was talking about the earmark amendment.

23 Republican Senators voted against earmarks, while 26 voted to keep wallowing in them.
