There is apparently some question today about whether John McCain is eligible to be President, since he wasn’t born in the United States proper.
I’m not quite sure why this is really question. He was born in the Panama Canal Zone at a US military installation and did not have to be naturalized, as some do who live in other territories of the US. That, to me, ends the question decisively. Of course, some lawyers disagree, saying that the question is murkier than that. It seems to me that they’re not so much interested in answering the question as they are in confirming their continued existence as lawyers.
Given the issues at work in this election, I think the Times could find a better use of its journalistic resources. But maybe not. Perhaps they could assign a couple folks to finding out what Bat Boy’s stance on the McCain candidacy is.
UPDATE: Why didn’t I think of this? Jim Geraghty’s wondering why Obama’s bona fides aren’t being questioned given that they are at least as in doubt as McCain’s.
This entire subject really is silly to even bring up and I very much hope that the MSM and their Democratic buddies make an issue of it. They’ll lose and they’ll look like jackanapes while doing so.
