So How Are Things in Spain Since the Surrender?

Certain politicians and pundits would have us believe that if we just left Iraq (or, if you’re Ron Paul or Pat Buchanan, the entire Middle East) all our troubles would be over. Al-Qaeda would leave us alone and nevermore would an Islamist seek to reduce us to our component atoms or to their taxed and docile vassals.

You might recall that Spain decided to run with that theory a few years ago. It tossed out Jose Maria Aznar in 2004 and elected the Socialist Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero. Zapatero, made good on is partys campaign promise by promptly pulling his country’s troops out of Iraq and throwing in a little smack-talk against the US for being there. Problem solved, right?

Well, not exactly. Spain just announced that they have arrested 12 Islamists who were building bomb materials and were planning terrorist attacks. Those dozen bring the total number of Islamists arrested for terrorist activities in Spain since the election day surrender to 300.

Surrender to them and they’ll let us alone? More like, surrender to them and they’ll continue to tear at your unprotected underbelly. That’s exactly what the United States should not do, now or ever. And it demonstrates undeniably that the folks who want us to bunker ourselves into a new Fortress America could not be more wrong.
