Romney and McCain Score Wins. McCain’s the Guy to Beat.

In today’s primary news, Mitt Romney handily won Nevada (and still leads the delegate count). No one save Ron Paul really competed there, so let that temper your judgement.

The big “momentum” story, though, is John McCain’s win in South Carolina. He looks to have eked out a win over Mike Huckabee, who is pulling a fast fade. Fred Thompson finished third with less than twenty percent, barely beating Mitt Romney who barely competed in the state until a late advertising buy in the last week.

So, for overall delegates, Mitt is still on top. But in the MSM campaign, John McCain is (surprise, surprise) pretty firmly the front runner. If anyone’s going to take the crown from him at this point, they’re going to have to sting him hard take away a big win in Florida, and at least a couple other major Super Tuesday states. If no one steps up, then John McCain is likely to be the Republican nominee. Right now, the best guy to do that stepping up is Fred Thompson. It’s time for him to take the gloves off and work harder than he’s ever worked in his life to put himself in the Super Tuesday hunt. Jim Geraghty thinks he’s not likely to drop out at this point. If he does stay in, he’s going to have to light into the guys in front of him with righteous fury. That’s what it’s goig to take for him to win it. He not only has to beat McCain et. al. but also the media that has counted him out since before Iowa.

In related news, a border guard was killed today when he was run over by a truck. The truck had illegally entered the United States when the border guard tried to stop it and was hit.

A point to ponder: it’s really hard for trucks to just drive into the US if there’s a fence there stopping them. A fence like the one that John McCain worked very hard to make sure wasn’t funded well enough to build. A fence that John McCain had only agreed to build part of to shut us up.

Let me say this as starkly as I can. If John McCain becomes our President, more border guards will die at the hands of illegal aliens. That sounds harsh, I realize, but I firmly believe it. he’s given me no convincing evidence to the contrary. In fact, he said tonight that his position on immigration hasn’t changed.

So he’s also a bald-faced liar.
