Lawdy, Lawdy. What Could He Have Meant?
Thank goodness this little hearkening back to the good ol’ “Yes, Massa” days was made by a Democrat about a Democrat, else you’d be seeing it on your TV screen this very evening.
“It’s not a TV crazed race. Frankly you can’t buy your way into it,” Cuomo said. “You can’t shuck and jive at a press conference,” he added. “All those moves you can make with the press don’t work when you’re in someone’s living room.”
One wonders when Cuomo expects Obama to break into a couple rounds of “Mammy”. Any reporter care to ask him right out in the open where a crazed TV camera can catch it? He probably has no idea where that phrase comes from, but I’m willing to bet that he thinks it sounds “black” in a 70′s John Shaft and Dolemite sort of way. I’d not mind him hoist a bit on his party’s own politically-correct petard just to see how he likes the feeling.
We won’t really see it, but it’d be enjoyable.
And what’s with the “TV-crazed race” thing? Has Cuomo not turned on a television? I’m guessing he missed every single news network blowing up like Apollonia Corleone on the day of the New Hampshire primary. You’d better believe that every single primary is a TV-crazed race. Be it local or national, television drives elections; town-hall meetings not nearly as much.
UPDATE: Wow was that fast! The bit at the end of the link in parentheses was added after I started writing this post. Apparently, someone got hold of Cuomo’s people and filled them in on the phrase. So it’s not at all about Obama, the Democratic front-runner who makes really good stump speeches that get TV coverage. No, not a little. It’s just all politicians who want to put one over on us with a little song and dance (and that’s the phrase he wanted right there). Even him.
To quote Dr. Evil, “Riiiiiiiiiiight”.
