Game On – Wild Card Edition!
Today is game day! The Redskins start the Second Season in the NFL with a matchup against the Seattle Seahawks (my brother’s favorite NFL team) in Seattle. Qwest field is a bear to play in. The crowd noise is among the loudest in the league and the Seahawks boast that their opponents have committed more false start penalties there than in any other stadium in the league. The team seems to think that’s a formidable weapon, more formidable, even, than a former All-Pro running back who’s forgotten how to hit the hole.
To that I say, if the home team falls behind early, the crowd noise kind of doesn’t matter, now does it? Ask the Minnesota Vikings about how quickly a raucous home stadium can start sounding like a mausoleum. The ‘Skins have been jumping on teams early in their four-game winning streak and there’s no reason to believe they won’t be trying the very same thing this afternoon.
The line on the game is Seattle by 3 1/2. I’d say lay your money on the Redskins, if you’re in an area where doing so won’t run you afoul of the law. Not only won’t Seattle cover the spread. they won’t win the game.
My Prediction: Redskins by ten. Turnovers, defensive ferocity, and a veteran coach with plenty of skill and the unwavering loyalty of his players, will decide this game. In the past month, the ‘Skins have the distinct edge on all three.
UPDATE: Two minutes left and the ‘Skins are down by 14. $&*)%^*&$%#^&
And turnovers were a huge factor. Huge. The Redskins held the advantage, but the Seahawks got the one they needed. And that, it seems, is the one that won the game.

I'm hoping for a history rematch which will pit the undefeated patriots against Washington in the superbowl, but this time Washington gets revenge on a terrible loss and keeps the patriots from going 19-0. Yeah! homer all the way…win and play a bigger and more exciting game next week.
And it's over, The skins have areas to get better.
Yeah.I wonder if they have enough draft picks and cap room to do that. They need a pass rusher, a couple guys on the O line and at least one linebacker.
Normally, I'm with you but…
Linebackers are ok.
With a starter out the linebackers still played well and the two back-ups are rookies.
O-line needs to get healthy but the group will be
Defensive line, we need the "kearny" type guy.
I never lost faith in Joe Gibbs, although I was seriously concerned about what was going on over the past several years until this year. The Redskins have slowly built a group of average players which can remain with the team, while having a core group of start which can win with the team. Gibb's has figured out how to work the system to have the viable back-up which understands the "SYSTEM".
Look at Heyer, he's not a starting offensive lineman he may not be a back-up: He may have played his way onto a pro team however just consider this… he could be released next year, with better players taking over, he's only seen one pro system he's no better to the other teams than 10 or so other guys so he sits in Maryland, if an injury occurs Gibbs is able to bring the guy in, basically off the street, who knows the system.
I can see this is what is being built in Washington, which is in my opinion a very good thing for Washington to be competitive year after year.
I'd be a lot more comfortable with another linebacker on the outside, preferably one who has speed to cover a tight end or to help with a slot receiver.
We definitely need depth on the O-line. I was seriously impressed with Heyer. One omre like him would be great.
I agree about the "Kearney" type. We need a pass-wrecker.
I think that there was a stretch there where Gibbs lost his mojo. I don't know whether he just wasn't communicating well with his booth staff or what, but there were breakdowns that should not have happened. And the team went for half a season at least without the will to put a team away in the second half. Still, I think with a good off-season and presuming we don't lose anyone important, the team looks good for next year.
