Don't forget that a "silly hat rule" may mean "a silly rule against hats" and does not necessarily even mean "a rule against silly hats." We don't even know that he was calling the hat silly, and not the rule.

Report it everywhere they accept news tips and maybe, just maybe we can slow down the spin so the voters can get the straight story some of the time.

If you check out the actual newspaper article from the Waverly Newspaper, you'll see that Roger Simon's story is completely made up. Note the extensive and substantive interview between Fred and the editor, Dimitrova.
