Breaking News: Most People Hate Their Cell Carriers

| December 8, 2007 | Comments (1)

Do you despise your cellphone service carrier? If you do, you’re in the majority.

Sprint apparently leads the pack among the most-hated cellphone service providers, but none of them are very far behind. I don’t actually own a cellphone. The reason for that is because, generally, I consider one a luxury and, given what I’ve seen happen to my friends who do own them, I’d prefer not to have bills show up every month with amounts larger than I had budgeted. I find it amazing that folks lock themselves into the contracts they do with cell phones. I suppose if you have a fair amount of disposable income, you can swing a cell phone bil that might be as little as 50 bucks a month but might be ten times that, depending on how many bonus charges you trigger and how often you trigger them.

The other reason is that I haven’t been any circumstances that have come up in the past few years where I’ve thought, “Man! I really need a cell phone right now.” It doesn’t hurt that I’m generally around a ton of people who have cell phones and who don’t mind lending me theirs for a quick call. Perhaps one day, when the service providers prove themselves more trustworthy and interested in dealing fairly with their customers, I’ll change my mind. Until then, feh.

Actually, we have alltel and I'm quite happy with them. I can't imagine being without it now, having 2 smaller children and driving by myself quite a bit. Before kids, I could take or leave the cell.
