Don’t Question Their Patriotism. Really. I Mean It.

Well, no one said you had to be particularly bright to be a journalist. Today, the White House introduced the MSM to General Lute, the Assistant to the President for Iraq and Afghanistan. The General then talked about the agreement we have just signed with the government of Iraq which gives us good grounds on which to negotiate a more firm alliance. The MSM was, as you might expect, not terribly impressed. In fact, the reporters seemed mightily confused.

Here’s one question from the press conference.

Is there any precedent for this in history? I mean, there wasn’t anything like this after Korea or Vietnam or any other kind of American engagement.

How the General refrained from whacking that clueless reporter with his briefing book is beyond me. Did the reporter actually not know about the agreement we have with South Korea or any of a few dozen countries around the world? Heck, even Osama bin Laden knew about the agreement we had with Saudi Arabia after we ousted Saddam Hussein from Kuwait. It was one of the main gripes in his declaration of war against us. Was the reporter truly that ignorant? Apparently so. Here are a couple more great questions from the Clueless Media.

How can any nation make a deal under occupation and not feel coerced? And anyway, they don’t really have a sort of government there at all.

No, really. That was actually the “question”. That casual dismissal of the sovereign Iraqi government was followed up by a rather crusty piece of cynicism.

Is this a facade for the Middle East conference, so it doesn’t wave this big cloud of our being in Iraq?

Gah. There’s so much undiluted stupid in that question that I can feel it sucking the IQ right out of my head, and…hang on. I’ll be right back.

Okay, I had to click over to Democratic Underground and get my own account. That and I wanted to make a quick contribution to the John Edwards campaign. I’ll be back in a few minutes. I have a couple posts to write at DU about how much I wish this new General would die of fiery hemmerh…humiroi…hemhero…how much I wish a big rock would drop out of the sky and smush him good!

I’m back. Where was I? Meh, I guess it’s not all that important. I’ll just say this one last thing now that my IQ seems to have climbed back to normal.

Don’t question the reporters’ patriotism. It’s tough to tell if they really do love their country or not. So give them the benefit of the doubt today. Question, instead, their intelligence. There’s a lot more evidence that they’re lacking that.
