I tend to side with Michelle Malkin on the issue of sanctuary cities for illegal immigrants. I don’t necessarily blame the cities for their blatant disregard for the law. I blame the President for allowing them to flout the laws so brazenly. I’m not surprised that San Francisco is giving ID cards to illegal immigrants. The mayor there is well on record as someone who’ll disobey any law with which he disagrees.

I think it’s baffling, though, that we have a Department of Homeland Security that can issue Orange Alerts and allow the borders to remain wide open. That’s like having a Bureau of Prisons who sends out alerts every time someone escapes but refuses to so much as close the gates, much less lock them. Americans are sent mixed messages on security every day. It’s no wonder that polling numbers on various terror-related matters are scrambled worse than an egg under the ministrations of a palsied cook during an earthquake. You can’t credibly say that we’re facing a very real Islamist threat while also saying that we can’t possibly build some sort of meaningful barrier on the border that’s most transited by those seeking to break the law in the United States. It just won’t make any sense.

Gavin Newsom believes in the Unitary Executive Theory.
That makes sense, since a big city mayor’s first job is to keep his citizens safe (just ask Guiliani).

  2. Jimmie says:

Except that said Theory does not, in fact, give the Executive leave to break black-letter law given my an authority higher than he.

And, before you say it, George Bush has done nothing of the sort. Some will say that he has, but that does entirely depend on accepting a certain interpretation of a law. Such interpretations are widely disputed.

style over substance, that’s what you bought and that’s what we’ll eventually all pay for.

    and jimmie… what?

  4. Jimmie says:

Well, he does get some credit for there not being any terrorist attacks in the US since 9/11, so there’s that.

  5. Matthew says:

And the anthrax attacks happened when?

    Oh that’s right. AFTER 9/11.

  6. Jimmie says:

And we have no actual evidence that the anthrax attacks were a terrorist action. In fact, we have little evidence that the various mailings were even connected tightly to each other.

When Homeland Security has to resort to tracking the people who buy falafel, something is shall we say, amiss?
I live within 30 minutes of Tijuana. The border, one at a time. Forget the airports.
Check out the borders…..forget the falafel, you morons.
