Locavore??

Really? That’s the best the folks at Oxford could find for a Word of the Year?

I mean, you should have at least a chance of puzzling out what a word means by breaking it down and looking for roots. You might get “-vore”, but would you get what was meant by “loca-”? Probably not. You’d probably define the word incorrectly, since “loca” is the plural of “locus” – a certain place or…well…location.

And I don’t think “Creature that eats lots of places” is exactly what our well-meaning friends intended for us to get from that word since it is likely to remind people more of The Blob than it will how desirable it might be to shop for your food at friendly local markets.
