Overmatched! Also, Some Winners Were Announced.
The results are in and here are all the winners of this year’s Weblog Awards! There are some incredibly good blogs among the winners.
I made a run of it, thanks to a few of you voting faithfully every day. The good news is that I didn’t finish dead last. The bad news is that I finished eighth, which is not exactly the showing I had hoped to make. The worse news is that I got pummeled by all five of the leftist bloggers in the category. All five. Yeah, they’re all bigger bloggers than I, but still…that hurt.
There’s more whinging after the jump. Feel free to skip if if you don’t dig that touchy-feely sort of thing.
So, yeah, I’m a little bit discouraged that I couldn’t pull all that many votes. I’m a bit discouraged, also, that, aside from the wonderful Sister Toldjah, I seem to be largely invisible to most of my blogging peers. I sent out a couple “please, help” messages earlier in the contest to a couple larger bloggers but never raelly did hear back. Tom Maguire nicely let me beg a bit in the comment section of his post on the Awards and I’m happy to see that my begging has earned me a couple more readers there, too (Hi, guys!). Still, it would have been nice if a couple bloggers who get a hundred times more traffic than I couple have tossed my name up there, just once. It’s not like I’m writing complete crap over here. Yeah, I know it’s their blog and they have greater concerns and they’re doing their thing, blah, blah, blah, blah. It might have been nice to get a little bump once, for one day, though and it certainly wouldn’t have cost them anything.
Ah well, I suppose the only real answer is to build up my readership. In the past two months, I’ve nearly doubled my daily readers, despite being largely unread and unlinked by the vast majority of the “celebloggers”. I can double that number again. This was my third year in the Weblog Awards and it seems that every year I’m up against blogs that are quite a bit larger than mine. This year seemed no exception. I keep punching way out of my weight class, but since there’s no category for “Blogs Who Think Big but are Really Quite Small”, I compete where I can.
Thank you, again, to you guys out there who thought my little nothing was worthy of your vote and your time. I appreciate that you come to visit and, as I continue to improve The Shack, know that it is your presence here that largely drives those improvements. I want this place to be somewhere you enjoy visiting regularly and feel welcome to stay and comment a while.

I didn't vote in the awards, so I didn't vote for you or for your competition. But as someone who disagrees with nearly everything you write, I can still say you have a great blog. You deserve more readership. And there's always next year.
That is one of the purely nicest things I've heard in quite a while. Thank you for that, very much.
