One Of Us!

Even world leaders need to get their geek-on!

I always knew that Jonah Goldberg was a geek. It’s one of the things that I like most about him, even though I’ve never met him. Now I know he’s definitely one of us – a gaming geek.

Hmmm this raises an intriguing question, What was Schwarzenegger’s best movie? This has to be rated on pure entertainment and Ahnoldness. Perhaps it’s my D&D and comic roots showing, but I think I’d have to vote for the first Conan movie. Note: I said the first one. Not the second one. Really, just the first one. Seriously.

D&D and comic roots? Man, that fills me with all sorts of happy thinking of Goldberg cajoling Ramesh Ponnuru, John Derbyshire, Byron York, and Rich Lowry into a semi-regular D&D game. Being conservatives, there’d be none of that 3.0/3.5 nonsense with feats and Prestige Classes and “Complete” books. It’d be, at worst, second edition with house-ruled non-weapon proficiencies. And there’d be cavaliers, because being noble is what D&D is all about.

Mr. Goldberg, I have a gaming group and we get together pretty much every Saturday evening not very far outside of DC. Anytime you want to sit in, just let me know. We’ll have a character ready for you.

Oh, as for his question, the answer is Conan the Barbarian, hands down. Second place goes to Predator and Terminator comes in third. Total Recall was a decent enough movie, but it really didn’t grab me as much more than a popcorn movie. I could never really get into Commando and I’m pretty much of the opinion that any Ahhhnold sequel should be burned immediately.
