Any Old Prevaricator in a Storm, I Suppose.
Josh Marshall should probably tack down his facts better if he’s going to back one of the left’s most recent favorite, though not entirely accurate, soldiers.
If you’ve been following the Scott Thomas Beauchamp Affair, I strongly recommend reading the latest update from The New Republic. The short version is that the Army’s investigation of the case appears to be confined to a) releasing no information about their investigation or details of its findings, b) leaking alleged details to the Weekly Standard, which no one will confirm on the record and c) keeping Beauchamp himself in communications lockdown where no one but family members in monitored conversations can communicate with him.
That third point will come as quite a surprise to Blackfive’s Laughing Wolf who actually held a “good conversation” with Beauchamp, despite not being a family member. There was no indication from Laughing Wolf that the communication was monitored, either. Confederate Yankee notes that Beauchamp has been available at least online for well over a month. So, unless Blackfive’s correspondent and Confederate Yankee are lying through their teeth, Marshall owes us a sizable correction.
It astounds me that anyone would consider The New Republic a fount of truth, considering its repeated truck with folks who know the truth about as well as a French peasant knows a bar of Ivory Soap. I suppose it all depends on whether your preferred narrative is worth more to you than the facts or not.

UPDATE: It’s been pointed out that the article I linked is two months old. Indeed, that is true and it’s still the latest news from TNR. According to their crack investigative staff, Beauchamp is still held in statis all incommunicado and everything. My point with Marshall is that he does owe the military a good bit of rowback since the horse he picked apparently disappeared somewhere around the second turn. Marshall is a very influential blogger on the left and it would only be the decent thing for him to actually acknowledge that the military has done more to dig out the facts on Beauchamp’s fictions than the publication that printed them.

speaking of “tacking down facts”–that josh marshall post is two months old.
And yet, um, that August 10 entry was the most recent post that TNR has to offer on the subject.
