Mad Mahmoud to the UN Tower Came

Well, CBS gave Mad Mahmoud a big old stage from which he spewed his death-cult propaganda, as a grand sendoff to his pending UN visit. I’m still amazed at how many folks around the blogosphere swallowed what he’s been shoveling without a moment’s hesitation, played it off as no big deal, or simply laughed at the folks who think it’s a bad idea to give a murdering madman a place of honor here in the cradle of liberty.

I understand the smirkers and the deniers. There’s nothing serious going on in their heads when it comes to someone like Mad Mahmoud. His victims are all a long way away and their paychecks or the hated Chimpy McBushHitlerburton is a whole lot closer. They can’t see any farther than that.

I don’t understand the folks on the left who should be a whole heck of a lot smarter. Once upon a time, you could count on the left to stand without reservation against the brutal oppression of basic human rights. Not these days, I guess. They seem to have more important things on their minds, like making sure Demcorats get elected. That, I suppose, seems a lot more important to them than how many teenaged girls swing from gallows for deigning to talk to a boy unescorted or how many gay people are executed or how many women are mutilated for showing off more than their requisite few inches of skin.

Me, I’d simply like to quote Robert Browning, who I think described Mad Mahmoud very accurately.

My first thought was, he lied in every word,
That hoary cripple, with malicious eye
Askance to watch the working of his lie
On mine, and mouth scarce able to afford
Suppression of the glee that pursed and scored
Its edge, at one more victim gained thereby.
