Guess Who is Not an Orioles Pitcher?

| August 22, 2007 | Comments (0)

Arizona Diamondback pitcher Brandon Webb’s scoreless run of 42 innings ended tonight on a Prince Fielder single in the first inning.

That’s an impressive number of shutout innings, but it’s still almost two complete games shy of Orel Hersheiser’s 50 59 straight scoreless in 1988. I believe that’s one record that won’t be broken for a very long time, especially since baseball has purposefully moved toward high-scoring games. If it’s going to be broken soon, though, Webb is as good a candidate as any to break it. He’s young and has four mean pitches that he’s not afraid to throw at any point in the count.
