It’s official, Barry Balco Bonds is now baseball’s home run king. I hope he thoroughly enjoys his time in the sun and I hope that in later years this accomplishment tastes like ashes to him.

UPDATE: Don Surber thinks it’s a grand thing. To each his own, says this baseball Luddite. Baseball, as Surber says, has always had its share of controversy. I doubt that any other sports runs as deep through the history and psyche of America as baseball and that’s a good thing. Controversies do erupt. Bonds has benefitted as much from his incredible workout regimen, the advances in science that allowed workouts to be more efficient and effective, and the changes to the game itself (the lowered pitching mounds, changes to ballparks to make them more homer friendly, etc) as he did the illegal chemicals he pumped into his veins. But those illegal chemicals did help and that taints his accomplishments, as it should.

Call me a baseball Luddite if you like. I don’t think that the stuff that Bonds was using has any place in a game that’s nearly sacred to this country. Leave the juice to the hukling brutes of football, the Eastern European Olympians, or the spindly bike riders. I liked my game when it was just nine guys playing ball, not nine guys and Monsanto.

Frank Thomas and Junior and a couple of other straights are better than this bobblehead bulging all over with juiced-up muscles. Barry Bonds is disliked even by baseball fans, who think he is a puffed-up egomaniac. Just another asshole like Canseco.

Hank Aaron had more class in the cuticle on his pinkie than this sport of nature will ever have. Bonds is a CREEPY CRAWLY piece of CRAP!
