“Springtime for Osama”?
It’s about time we saw one of these.
A satirical musical about Islamist terrorism and Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden has sparked protests in Britain, with critics blasting it as tasteless.
“Jihad: The Musical,” which features songs including “I wanna be like Osama” and is described as “a madcap gallop through the wacky world of international terrorism,” is on at the Edinburgh Fringe festival this month.
I’ve been wondering, privately, and on this blog, when we were going to start seeing the arty crowd getting into the game. After all, it’s the arty folks around the world who are taking it the worst from the Islamists. Freedom of Expression is their lifeblood and that’s the very first thing that Islamists take away from a subjugated people.
Of course, our arty crowd is too busy being crouched down staring at their reflections in pools to care much about the rest of the world, but I have hopes for arty folks elsewhere. We could use a few more “satirical” musicals. I’d pay to see “Springtime for Osama” for no other reason than to jeer a man who wants me dead.

This kinda reminds me of when Osama's niece posed in some racy photos – how's that for revenge? We got your niece, dude! And she's hot! Hahahahahahahahahaha!!!
Phew! Thank God, someone finally has the balls and the wisdom to tackle the really BIG issue, the kind of thing that makes the loyal Republican base go wild with indignation. Let the liberal media talk about the U.S. infrastructure crumbling under our feet, or the continuing efforts of Cheney to undermine the Constitution, or all the other stories those Commies and terrorist sympathizers consider "news." We know that the REAL story of note is the production of some satirical musical in London by the "artsy" crowd. It goes without saying that the Mainstream Media's liberal bias is the only reason we don't see this vitally important expose on the front page of the New York Times.
Yeah, that Constitution is really undermined. Why just last night those damned Republicans actually threw out a vote they didn't like until they got a vote they wanted. Stupid democracy-hating Republicans.
Ummm…it was the Republicans that did that, right legaleagle?
And as far as the infrastructure goes, I'd be very interested in having a rational and calm discussion about the issue just as soon as the waterlogged corpses upon which your party is scoring political points are buried and a decent amount of time has passed for their families and loved ones to grieve their loss. I'm far more interested in simple human dignity than I am in being cheap and partisan (except in Osama's case, where he surrendered his human dignity many, many years ago).
So dial back the crazy and dial up the decency, k?
Right on Jimmie. From the party of Terry Schiavo grave sitting this is priceless. Keep 'em coming.
As I remember history, the Republicans were largely the one trying to keep Terry Schaivo's cheating husband from putting her in her grave.
Perhaps the history is different where you live.
Or, Masaccio, the party that, while the blood was still flowing from the victims of the Virginia Tech massacre, hopped right on the "If-only-every-student-was-required-to-carry-a-handgun-to-class" bandwagon.
"Perhaps the history is different where you live."
Earth?
Jimmie.
Ms. Shavano was brain dead. The husband like any other human beign had every right to go on with his life.
History is not at all different where we live Jimmie. Rateher, History is what you should learn to understand why people consider your ideas so similar to Torquemada's in the Spanish Inquisition.
Ms. Shavano went to her grave with the dignity that people like you were denying her. That's why we have laws in America, to stop extremist like you. If you don't like it move to another country.
First, gil, her last name was Schaivo, not Shavano. I'm curious, since you're not all that sure of her name, if you know what actually happened in the Schaivo case. I suspect you really don't know. You just know what you've been told, which is likely wrong.
Second, let me assume that you consider my ideas similar to those of Torquemadas. How are they similar? I'd like details and examples of each parallel.
Remember:
If we stop singing and dancing, THE TERRORISTS HAVE WON!
As long as we're making fun of something, I'd say we're not being beaten by it. Does anyone else feel differently?
That, I think, is the whole point justin. If you can ridicule it, you make is less dangerous and less of a threat. That's not to say we shouldn't take the threat of Islamism seriously. It's a very serious threat. But it's not an ideology that we should in any way take seriously, if you see the difference.

Perfectly.
