Guns Don't Kill People, Global Warming Does.

I swear, you can’t make stuff like this up.

Apparently, the ongoing genocide in Darfur has nothing really to do with cleansing the country of non-Arabs. Never mind that the UN’s own observers have documented cases where non-Arab farming villages were razed to the ground while Arab farming villages were left completely untouched. Never mind that the government’s use of the brutal machete-wielding Janjaweed began because of a rebel military raid that completely embarassed Khartoum.

Never mind that the drought that sent Darfur into a crisis happened back in 1983.

Never mind all that. The real culprit here aren’t Islamists at all and there’s no real genocide, just farmers and herders fighting over arable land that’s shrinking thanks to that Ol’ Debbil Global Warming.

It’s convenient that the genocide du jour for the glitterati has been merged so neatly with the world crisis du jour by the UN Secretary General. It makes it easier to schedule the benefit concerts and to get all the weepy-looking celebrities in the same place for the photo ops, I suppose. Meanwhile, people are still being slaughtered in Darfur, not because they’re perching on the Last Oasis in the Trackless Desert, but because they are not Arab or Muslim. Denying that fact doesn’t make it go away. It just makes more people dead.
