Richard Cohen, This Week’s Waste of Newsprint
You can look for a long time, but you’re not going to find a more insipid, thought-free piece of editorializing than Richard Cohen’s chunk of “Huh? What?” in today’s WaPo.
Let me see if I can sum it up for you:
Ever notice how Presidential Candidates spend time getting all thin and buff? Why is that? Oh, we don’t like fat people much, right? But why are we so critical of fat people? Oh yeah. Willpower. We like folks to have willpower. Hey, Clinton had willpower to work out, unlike those mean Republicans who didn’t have the willpower to leave him alone for doing nothing at all. President Bush has willpower too, except he’s stupid.
Wah. I wanna leave fat people alone. What’s the big deal anyhow? Oh yeah, Bush is still stupid. Teddy Roosevelt was fat and smart (Aggressive war to take down a perceived threat that, after the fact, wasn’t so threatening? What on earth is that??). Bush is still stupid, but he’s fit.
And Mike Huckabee is wrong about everything. Except he’s kind of skinny, too.
Cohen took five times as much space to tell you what I just did. He’s getting paid a lot of money why?
