A Word Out of Place
Something in this article really bothered me.
BAGHDAD (AP) – A suicide truck bomber struck a police station in a mainly Sunni area in Baghdad on Saturday, killing at least 20 people, police said, as insurgents apparently step up their campaign against Iraqis seen as collaborating with the U.S. and the Iraqi government.
It’s the word “collaborating”. It doesn’t belong there with all the connotations it brings. It’s out of place.
How does one “collaborate” with one’s own freely and democratically-elected government? And if average, everyday Iraqis (and those are the ones killed in these terrorist attacks) are seen as “collaborating” with their own legitimate government, does that make the “insurgents” the ones with the righteous beef?
It’s a poorly-used word and terribly biased word to use in the situation and it doesn’t belong there.

Category: Oh, THAT liberal media.

The same verb is used to describe Palestinians who (are accused of) help(ing) Israel. As if they’re comparable to the French enablers of Marshall Petain.
It can be infuriating, can’t it? It is little things like this that add up to the media bias folks like you and I talk about so often, as opposed to those big obviously-slanted stories.
