Senator Chuck Hagel, Media Hero

MIckey Kaus asks a question.

Why, exactly, is Sen. Chuck Hagel showing “courage” in conspicuously denouncing the Iraq War now that virtually the entire American establishment has reached that same conclusion–now that Hagel is virtually assured of getting hero treatment from Brian Williams and Tim Russert and long favorable profiles in the newsweeklies? .

He answers it pretty completely, but let me give you the aabridged version a la The Shack:

He’s doing it to cover his political tail. That’s it.

Chuck Hagel and every other Senator who voted for the recent non-binding amendment are nothing more than political cockroaches, looking for the next rock under which to scurry. They don’t have the courage of their convictions because they have only one conviction: “I must be re-elected”. They could care less about what is happening anywhere else but in their donor base and their internal polls. They’re not there to serve. They’re there to soak up all the benefits being a high elected official in a liberal democracy brings, and you know as well as I do, they are plentiful.

But, hey, anyone who says that George Bush is a fascist warmongering poopyhead is a big fat winner with the MSM so there you go.
