The Redskins Let Another One Go.
Another week, another Redskin disappointment.
This time, the Falcons – a team on the ropes and dispirited. They were playing for their playoff lives and the ‘Skins let them stay alive.
For a whole quarter, the Redskins completely manhandled the Falcons, on both sides of the ball. The offensive and defensive lines pushed their counterparts around at will. They gave Ledell Betts humongous holes through which to run and he ran like a maniac.
And then, for reasons I can’t quite figure out, they stopped. The Falcons didn’t make any great defensive changes. The ‘Skins just seemed to stop being aggressive. They began to give up occasional gains on defense and were stopped a couple times on offense. The Falcons scored and the team seemed to give up its gameplan entirely.
I don’t think that needed to happen. The best way to stop Michael Vick is to keep him off the field. That means the Redskins needed to keep shoving the ball down the Falcons’ throat and they didnt’ do that in the entire second half.
(And, as I write this, the ‘Skins blocked a punt and are driving toward a touchdown, with about a minute to go. The game’s not over, but it would certainly take a miracle for them to win it.)
To be perfectly honest, I don’t see all the fuss about Michael Vick. Yes, he has great legs and can run all day, but so can just about every running back in the league. That makes him another running back who can occasionally throw a heck of a pass. But there are other running backs who can do the very same thing – LaDanian Tomlinson comes to mind.
So what makes Vick so special? I don’t know. He’s had several seasons to learn how to be a productive professional quarterback and he hasn’t done it yet. He’s still horribly streaky and he doesn’t see the field as well as most. He shouldn’t have beaten them – not today.
(Ah….fourth down and the line couldn’t protect Campbell so he threw an incompletion. I wonder what happened that the o-line broke down so badly in the second half? Blitzes? They handled them in the first half. Maybe Bugel isn’t coaching them as well as he ought.)
So, another game has passed and the Redskins seems to have that special version of ADHD that makes them think they’re a “pitch and catch” team. They may well be, but not this year. Not with a rookie under center. They need to remember who they are and what gives them success.
I’ll give you a hint. It ain’t throwing the ball a ton.

Get real WHO won?? You know what people dont realize about Mike Vike …….What happens when you chase a 4.2 speed demon streak that can cut and break like barry sanders all over the field left right back forward?????? ill go ahead and tell you ….you get TIRED. that whats so good about him he wears defenses out…sorry redskins fans
C'mon Mike. The Redskins defense stinks. it's no big secret.
Bottom line on Vick – their team most likely will not make the playoffs. Okay, so he's fast and he can "cut and break like Barry Sanders". So what? I can think of four other running backs in the league that can do that, too. Those running backs also have quarterbacks who can throw the football.
Michael Vick is essentially soaking up two positions, either one of which could be filled with a competent athlete. Vick can do either one of them well. When he does both, he's a detriment to his team, as his track record has proven over the years.
