Another One Bites the Dust!
Before the most recent election, Speaker-ascendant Nancy Pelosi made some promises. She assured us that, if her party were given the reins of Congressional power, she’d make sure ten things happened in the first hundred hours.
Here’s the first:
We will start by cleaning up Congress, breaking the link between lobbyists and legislation and commit to pay-as-you-go, no new deficit spending.
Well, as you may have guessed from her attempts to place John Murtha, a corrupt Porkmeisters General and bribe-intensive Alcee Hastings in sensitive leadership positions, she broke that one before the election was even fully certified.
Oh, and let us not neglect to note the newest King of the Other White Meat Alan Mollohan, who is under investigation by the FBI for his escapades with our money, whom Pelosi wants to head the committee that oversees, among other things, the FBI budget (via Tom Maguire).
So let’s consider her first promise well and truly “porked”.
How is she set to deliver on her second promise?
We will make our nation safer and we will begin by implementing the recommendations of the independent, bipartisan 9/11 Commission.
It was a solemn pledge, repeated by Democratic leaders and candidates over and over: If elected to the majority in Congress, Democrats would implement all of the recommendations of the bipartisan commission that examined the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
But with control of Congress now secured, Democratic leaders have decided for now against implementing the one measure that would affect them most directly: a wholesale reorganization of Congress to improve oversight and funding of the nation’s intelligence agencies. Instead, Democratic leaders may create a panel to look at the issue and produce recommendations, according to congressional aides and lawmakers.
This is particularly shameful because Pelosi herself has parroted the same worn out phrase over and over and over again, solemnly promising us that the Democrats would enact all the recommendations of the 9/11 Commission. Sister Toldjah has more than a couple quotes from Pelosi that ought to shame her today and this dead-on comment:
the fact that Pelosi and Co. would go on and on for over 2 years about implementing all of the Commissions’ recommendations and then backtrack once she and her cohorts are elected to a majority of Congress is just one more example of how Democrats can talk the talk – but not walk the walk. They said what they needed to to get elected, but obviously don’t have plans to practice all of what they preached.
America was sold a bill of goods earlier this month. As we have seen not even a month after the election the Democrats have no intention on making good on their promises. If you were one of those folks who voted for “change”, you’re surely going to get it.
It’s just not going to be change for the better.
UPDATE: Just for grins, let’s look at the third item on Pelosi’s grand agenda.
We will make our economy fairer, and we will begin by raising the minimum wage. We will not pass a pay raise for Congress until there is an increase in the minimum wage.
You know, I think this one has a great chance of passing. After all, jacking up the minimum wage is the greatest of all Dem Double Whammys: smacking around the rich (that aren’t actually them of course) while helping out the labor union lobby.
Oh and as a last note, when you read that list of campaign puffery, please note that killing terrorists is nowhere to be seen.
