“America’s threats are empty threats…”

So says the Supreme Leader of Iran:

“This issue (the elections) is not a purely domestic issue for America, but it is the defeat of Bush’s hawkish policies in the world,” Khamenei said in remarks reported by Iran’s student news agency ISNA on Friday.

“Since Washington’s hostile and hawkish policies have always been against the Iranian nation, this defeat is actually an obvious victory for the Iranian nation.”

It bothers me a lot that the victory of the Democratic Party could be read, even a little bit, as a victory for the brutally oppressive, nuclear-obsessed, anti-Semitic leaders of Iran.

It should never be this way. Never in a million years. Disagreeing with a President’s policies, even his war-fighting policies is one thing. Giving an avowed enemy of this nation any reason at all to rejoice in your electoral triumph is inexcuseable.

Here’s more:

“The result of this election indicates that the majority of American people are dissatisfied and are fed up with the policies of the American administration,” the IRNA state news agency quoted Ahmadinejad as saying.

Khamenei said military manoeuvres in the Gulf this week in which Iranian forces tested new missile systems showed Iran was ready to face any threat.

But, he said: “With the scandalous defeat of America’s policies in Iraq, Palestine, Lebanon and Afghanistan, America’s threats are empty threats on an international scale.”

So here you go, America. This is what your votes bought you.

And the man likely to be your next Secretary of Defense is all for sitting down and finding places to accomodate him.

And the party now running Congress has brought in George McGovern to give it advice, not on fighting a war, but on how to surrender it as efficiently as possible. What’s driving him to the same sort of advice that led to the slaughter of 3 million Cambodians and Vietnamese after we fled Vietnam?

Well, how about this?

McGovern told the audience Thursday that the Iraq and Vietnam wars were equally “foolish enterprises” and that the current threat of terrorism developed because _ not before _ the United States went into Iraq.

Well, there you go! All those terrorists threatening us today? None of them existed before 2002.

So, 9/11, the USS Cole, Khobar Towers, the African Embassies, Daniel Pearl? They were all figments of your imagination. The people we thought were killed in each of those attacks aren’t really dead. The Twin Towers aren’t gone. They’re just hiding. The folks who we thought were responsible? Well, they don’t exist either.

Well, they do now, but they didn’t before. We created them, see?

And we elected the folks who are going to treat McGovern’s words as wisdom.

Yay us.

  1. Tom1 says:

In 1980, when Ronald Reagan defeated Jimmy Carter, there was very similar gloating from Khamenei' predecessor, Ayatollah Khomeini. And the Iranian people were dancing in the streets and shouting "death to America" in celebration of the defeat of the much-despised Carter. Yet nobody in America ever said that the American electorate was wrong in giving the Ayatolla something to cheer about. But you weren't blogging then, of course. Would you have applied the same logic to Reagan's victory and condemned the American people for having elected him? I doubt it. You probably would have been cheering right along with the Iranians in celebration of Carter's defeat. And you would have rightly believed that the American electorate should not base their votes on what the Ayatollah might say about it.

By the way, the idea that there democrats are responsible for the Cambodian genocide is absurd, I just don't have time to go into it now. If you want to know the truth about Cambodia, travel there and talk to those who suffered under the Khmer Rouge. They will tell you a very different story.
