Propaganda that Saves Lives and that Kills.
Today I ran across another difference between Israel and Hezbollah that I think goes to the heart of this current conflict.
Using a few internet searches, I found a couple examples where Israel blanketed an area in Lebanon with leaflets warning the civilians there of a coming attack days before the attack actually arrived. Thre’s no doubt that doing so cost Israel tactically and allowed the Hezbollah terrorists in those areas the opportunity to either move or to hunker down and find protection. These “leaflet bombs” are a humanitarian gesture I’ve only seen done by civilized people who were greatly concerned with killing as few civilians as possible (even if the media reports and other propaganda efforts seem to ignore such efforts).
Of course, the flip side is that such “propaganda bombs” have been done to make civilians better targets as well as was seen in the last decade in Sri Lanka (warning: graphic photos).
Hassan Nasrallah today took the “propaganda bomb” to a new low when he openly asked Arabs to flee the city of Haifa to avoid being killed by Hezbollah rocket barrages. According to Michael Rubin, the AP reported Nasrallah as saying:
I have a special message to the Arabs of Haifa, to your martyrs and to your wounded. I call on you to leave this city. I hope you do this. … Please leave so we don’t shed your blood, which is our blood.
This is yet another example of the differences between the bloodthirsty terrorists who wage war against all civilized people and those who stand ready to oppose them. Would that we remembered that difference more often than we apparently do now.
If we did, Ned Lamont would be an also-ran and Cynthia McKinney would never have appeared on a ballot.
