Remembering Golda Meir
Yesterday, pretty much all I saw in the news was the story about the dead in Qana, Lebanon.
And mostly, what came to mind when I saw the images and heard the stories was this quote from the former leader of Israel, Golda Meir:
When peace comes, we will perhaps in time be able to forgive the Arabs for killing our sons. But it will be harder for us to forgive them for having forced us to kill their sons.
I wonder how much harder it will be for the Israelis to forgive the Arabs for forcing them to kill their wives and daughters as well.
And I wonder How Ms. Meir would have regarded the craven words and deeds of Kofi Annan, who spent much time yesterday outraged at her nation, but only managed to mention the word “Hizbollah” twice.
