No Raise for You!

At last, a Democrat proposal I can support!

WASHINGTON (Reuters) — Democrats ratcheted up their election-year push for an increase in the federal minimum wage Tuesday by promising to block a congressional pay hike unless some of the lowest-paid hourly workers get their first raise in nearly a decade.

“Congress is going to have earn its raise by putting American workers first: A raise for workers before a raise for Congress,” said Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid of Nevada.

I’m behind this 100 percent little bit of obstructionist politics with my whole heart (Reid’s deceptive language, and some nimble verbiage from the article aside).

I don’t think either one ought to be raised. Both of them do harm to the economy and raising them right now is not only highly inappropriate but reckless.

Oh, you mean that’s not quite what he meant? Darn. Here I thought the Dems were starting to make some sense.
