WASHINGTON — Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta, the only Democrat in President Bush’s Cabinet, will step down next month.

Mineta’s resignation is effective July 17, White House press secretary Tony Snow said Friday.

Man, that’s a news announcement I’ve been wanting to hear for about five years now. Mineta’s head should have rolled right about the time his people fined several airlines for having more than two “people of the same ethnic persuasion” pulled out of line at the same time.

The TSA and the Air Marshal program are simply wastes of money since the predictable government bureaucracy smothered any real competence out of either of them.

Michelle Malkin probably hasn’t seen the news yet. When she does, expect her to have plenty of chapter and verse on his general incompetence.
