Happy Fathers’ Day!

I want to wish all the Dads out there a very Happy Fathers’ Day.

I know it’s not easy to be a strong and confident Dad these days. There are a lot of things in the culture working hard against you – some of which are there on purpose and some which just spring up – yet many of you manage to persevere. I sometimes wonder, as I survey the vast wasteland of our popular culture whether Fatherhood has even a gnat’s chance of survival. But it does, mostly because there are very good men out there who do the hard and generally thankless work of loving their children, guiding them in the right ways to go, loving their wives, providing for their families, and being understated but principled leaders and good examples of strength, honesty, and character.

I want to publicly thank my Dad for being one of those men. As I’ve grown into adulthood, I’ve come to realize that my Dad was far from perfect (and who is perfect, really?) but that he was right a good deal more than he was wrong and that he was every bit deserving of being my childhood Hero. Heck, he still is my Hero even today, perhaps because I can see the man he is with the more clear vision of an adult. There are a lot of good men in the world but my Pop stands at the top of the list, in my book. Happy Fathers’ Day, Pop. I love you.
