Coulter Redux

Peter Daou writes:

NBC, a major U.S. media outlet, has given Coulter extended play in recent days. They have knowingly given a public forum to a woman who slandered 9/11 widows and who is now on the record identifying a U.S. Congressman, a Marine, as an ideal target for murder. Are there any repercussions for Coulter?

Just imagine a progressive saying the same things; media outlets would shun them like the plague. “Fair and Balanced” alright…

Yes, well, notwithstanding the fact that said U.S. Marine has spent the better part of a year slandering our soldiers, it’s fairly obvious that what Coulter was doing was a series of not particularly funny one-liners. You know, the kind of stuff that lefty entertainers toss out all the time. Who could forget, for instance, that a major British “progressive” newspaper actually called for the President’s assassination. There was also, leftist radio talk host Randi Rhodes’ ever so amusing “Kill Bush” skit on the “progressive” Air America?

Both are still in full operation and both are still adored by “progressives”.

But how about a “progressive” or two who logs some MSM time? I’m sure that Mr. Daou caught Markos Zuniga, whose famous “Screw them” glee about the dead and defiled Americans in Fallujah was met with yawns from other progressives, on Meet the Press last Sunday. And for goodness sake, what about this week’s troglodyte, Larry Johnson, whose MSM appearances dwarf Coulter’s.

Coulter’s appearances this week are pretty easy to explain, and it has nothing to do with what Mr. Daou perceives as some sort of right-wing media bias (which idea is simply ludicrous). Coulter is a high-profile Republican who is out selling a book. That makes her even more visible, especially since she’s eager to sell plenty of copies. She’s also never, ever been shy about saying whatever is on her mind, regardless of how inflammatory, and the MSM knows that. Notice, by the way, that whenever Coulter is on, she’s never on in close proximity to a reasonable voice on the right. In fact, you’d have to look high and low on NBS to find more than one or two reasonable voices from the right at any time. Coulter gets on the air, says something in a outhouse rat-crazy way, the host nods sagely as if this is normal behavior for someone speaking from the right even though it’s not. Before the interview is done, the entire right looks like a bunch of screaming loons and the outlet gets boffo ratings.

The MSM gets to pad its advertising revenue and make the right look bad. Two birds with one stone!

  1. Ann is porn for conservatives. We get off on on bashing liberals. It feels good. The problem is that it shouldn't be done in public, which is what Ann is doing.

  2. Donovan Taylor says:

    Have you read the book?

  3. Jimmie says:

No, I haven't, Donovan. Right now I'm not entirely sure that I will. I'm prety familia with her argument and it seems as if she's basically expanding one aspect of her "liberals are bad" theme, like she did with the last couple of books.

Actually, I'm kind of keen to get my hand on the Ramesh Ponnuru book, "Party of Death".

  4. I read the book and it is exactly as Jimmie, describes. You do not have to read it, at all. We say the same stuff she says, but we don't drag it out for a couple hundred pages. It's just self congratulations for Cons, stroking ourselves, so to speak. Liberals bad, Cons good. We know already, that's why we are Conservative. The material in her books is always the same. She is great in short doses, but doesn't have enough material for a book. She should stick to columns.
