Trivia Time.
How about a little baseball trivia fun for the weekend?
What ten players with a last name beginning with “M” have hit 40 or more homers in a season?
A puzzler, huh? Hmmm…I’ll give you my list, updated as I think of more, assuming I think of more. Put your answers in the comment section and let’s see if we can’t get all ten by Monday (when I hope the answer presents itself).
No search engines, folks. Let’s puzzle this out ourselves.
- Roger Maris
- Mickey Mantle (a pair of Yanks!)
- Willie Mays
- Willie McCovey(A pair of Giants!)
- Bill Mazeroski
- Mark McGwire
- Kevin Mitchell
- Eddie Matthews (the only guy to play for all three “Braves” teams. He’d probably be better remembered if he hadn’t been a teammate of Hammerin’ Hank Aaron.)
Eddie Murray’s another possibility here. I’m not sure that he ever cracked 40, though. I vaguely recall that his career high was 33, but I”m not sure of that.
Gary Matthews is a possibility here, too.
UPDATE: Thanks to Mr. Lowry, I have the full list. I’ll hold it until Monday and see who gets the most right. Here are a couple hints. One person on my list is wrong. I was right that Eddie Murray didn’t make the list. One other very famous “M” player who you might expect to to be on the list isn’t (his career high was 39).
UPDATE: Here’s the list, thanks to Mr. Lowry.
Mark McGwire (1987, 1992, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999)
Roger Maris (1961)
Mickey Mantle (1956, 1958, 1960, 1961)
Tino Martinez (1997)
Eddie Mathews (1953, 1954, 1955, 1959)
Willie Mays (1954, 1955, 1961, 1962, 1964, 1965)
Willie McCovey (1963, 1969)
Johnny Mize (1940, 1947, 1948)
Dale Murphy (1987)
Kevin Mitchell (1989)
I didn’t do too badly with seven out of ten right off the bat.
You guys, however, just stink! What’s the deal, commenters? You Daou Report readers can’t comment on something unless it’s to call the poster a liar, bigot, or Bush-zombie? I get you like flies on stink on the random “throwaway” posts, but when I actually come up off the political stuff and try to get a little cooperation and a sense of play going on, you’re nowhere to be found. Sheesh.
