Ann Coulter: Ho-Hum.

What’s the big news of the day in the blogosphere? Well, it appears that conservative bomb-thrower Ann Coulter made a valid point in perhaps the most indelicate and loutish way possible.

Yes, I know. Imagine my surprise when I read that.

As expected, the lefty blogs have their Outrage-O-Meters turned up to 12. The blogs on the right have done their basic duty by noting their outrage in no uncertain terms and saying, in as many ways as there are blogs, “she doesn’t speak for us” (you can hit this excellent post by The Anchoress for a good sample of what the right is saying).

Where do I stand?

Actually, I couldn’t care less.

Why should I put great store in how Ann Coulter says what she says? She’s an entertainer. Let me write that again.

En – ter – tain – er.

She writes a colums. She shows up on television from time to time. She writes books that are, basically, extended Director’s Cuts of her columns. How are her words more important than anyone else out there who has a regular media gig and a penchant to shout her opinions?

They aren’t. If you want to throw her in a box, she goes right in there with Rush Limbaugh, Al Franken, Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, and every blogger on the planet. We’re all just people with a point of view and a way to get it out to the world. But not one of us have any great ability to make policy, change policy, or do much else but try to grab and hold an audience who happens to like what we do.

Coulter throws verbal bombs. She is blunt and steps over the line of civil conversation. Is that news to anyone, anywhere?

I’m sorry, folks. I can’t find it in me to get outraged that Ann Coulter acts just like Ann Coulter.
