This is JEOPARDY! Week!
As some of you faithful Shack readers know, I competed on Jeopardy! about three weeks ago. This week, my show airs.
The episode where you can catch me matching my brain against two other very smart people is Friday, April 21st. Check your local listings, as they say. I’ll spend a bit of time each day talking a little bit about the folks who competed with me, as well as the overall experience. The denouemeny will come over the weekend, after my show airs and I can talk about the experience more fully.
One of the things they have all the contestants do is tape something they call a “Hometown Howdy”. It’s a little commercial spot that the local station can air right before they air that episode of the show where the contestant introduces themself, says Hello to their home town, and give some sort of “hometown” line asking folks to watch them on Jeopardy! It was, let’s say, not the favorite moment for any of us who were there for the week’s tapings that day. We wrote our own Howdy and there was a lot of rewriting and tinkering, just to make sure we all didn’t look like a bunch of yahoos up there. I’m not sure any of us were entirely happy with what we did, but I’m surprised to see that a lot of them look and sound pretty good.

And yeah, I know I spoke a bit too fast. I wasn’t sure how much time I was going to have and, since mine was a bit longer than the others, I decided to speed up a bit. I also talk fast naturally, so my Howdy sounds like I’m late for an appointment. Still, I do look pretty good on camera, don’t you think?

Thanks! I thought it was just okay, but as I go back, I do think I sounded like I was being forced at gunpoint do go fast, fast, FAST!
Luckily, none of us had to endure the ignominity of having do do a second take on our Howdy. That was the number one fear for each of us when our turn came up.

HEY! I saw Jimmie Bise on TV!!! How the heck are ya?!? It was so cool to see you. I was biting my nails the whole time saying, "HE'S GONNA WIN! HE'S GONNA WIN!" I called Kevin and he was saying, "NO WAY!" (we're divorced now, thank God) Anyway, gimmie a shout, jimmie! Do you still blow on the bari?
