Technology, Yay!!
Well, here I am in Austin, blogging from the South by Southwest Interactive festival. Let me tell you, it’s been a heck of a time thus far.
First, I have to say that my fellow panelists are wonderful. I’ve finally gotten to meet the Legendary Grace Davis, who is every bit as smart and beautiful as you can imagine. Tish Grier is a complete dish and has the sort of sense of huthings mor I’d if I were, say, twice as smart as I am now. Bill Anderson is our newly-appointed Lord of All Things Tech and is pretty darned funny, too. Nancy White, our kindly yet stern moderator is the perfect person to referee our merry band of loveable lunatics. Our discussion ought to be intertaining and informative, which is exactly what we want it to be.
Did I mention that every single member member of my panel is smarter and funnier than I? Good thing I’m bringing the sexy sexy, or I’d be in big trouble right now!
Having spent a whole day at SXSW, I have to make a couple observations.
1) I’ve not seen one unattractive woman at this conference. No, seriously. This is ostensibly a geek convention (tech and blogging? Yeah.), only with every hot woman in Austin! Yes, folks, I’m all about the eye-candy and I’m on hottie overload.
2) I’ve seen exactly two PC laptops here in a over a day. Though there are a ton of laptops, they’re all Macs (well, save two). I feel as if I’ve walked into a lucid Steve Jobs dream. It’s not a bad thing.
3) It’s a geek con, so the food is pricey. Big surprise, huh?
4) Moleskine notebooks abound! I feel good about this because I can haul out my own Moleskine manuscript book in public with great pride (so long as I don’t show anyone the sad, sad musical work contained therein). Moleskine rocks.
Those are my initial impressions, well, save one. It has to do with the title of my post. The entire thrust of this conference really is “Technology, Yay!!”. There are tons of panels and lecutures and workshops to show us all the newsest coolest interactive software and various other tools, but not necessarily a lot of telling us just why all these shiny happy things are going to make us more interactive, or will make us interactive in a better or more efficient manner. There’s a lot of sizzle here and much less steak. I hope that our conference provides some Prime Sirloin for hungry minds amongst all the Technical Jujubes.
Okay, so the owner of the computer I’m using has returned (thanks, Nancy! And say a quick prayer for her. She’s not feeling well this morning), so I’m off. I leave for LA this evening for the Jimmie US Tour, Second Leg. I’ll have plenty more on the conference and my expanded thoughts on a lot of stuff I’ve seen and heard (much of which might actually be useful! Bonus!) as soon as I can.
Ciao, Babies (See? Hip already.)

Break a leg, bro!
Jimmie, it was GREAT to meet you. I loved you energy, humor, insights and especially your willingness to jump in 100% into an existing group and make all of us feel like you had been with us from day one. That is magic.
ThinkingGREAT thoughts for your next adventure on the left coast.
Nancy
