Blanco Knew! But Who Cares, Really?

Here’s tomorow’s headline.

Video Shows Chief Executive Believed the Levees Were Intact.

Wait…what? The Chief Executive was Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco and not President Bush?

Oh, well, never mind then.

No, really. Never mind.

But imagine the kind of uproar we could have had if we could have written this:

“We keep getting reports in some places that maybe water is coming over the levees,” President Bush said shortly after noon on Aug. 29, according to the video. “We heard a report unconfirmed, I think, we have not breached the levee. I think we have not breached the levee at this time.”

Instead, we have to settle for this:

“We keep getting reports in some places that maybe water is coming over the levees,” Gov. Kathleen Blanco said shortly after noon on Aug. 29, according to the video. “We heard a report unconfirmed, I think, we have not breached the levee. I think we have not breached the levee at this time.”

Luckily, our intrepid reporter passes over the whole Blanco issue, and gets right to slamming the President, thanks to not one single quote supporting the President and not one single quote pointing out that Governor Blanco was wrong NEARLY EVERY SINGLE TIME SHE OPENED HER MOUTH FOR TWO WHOLE DAYS, WHEN SHE WASN’T HAVING A GOOD CRYING JAG ON TELEVISION.

Sorry. Sorry. Got a bit excited there. I just have a hard time figuring out why people who are apparently smart enough to do things like tie their shoes and make meals can’t figure out that when it comes to disaster response, the Federal government is exactly the wrong bureaucracy to expect to spring immediately into action. Hell, it took our government years to spring into World War II and the whole world was up for grabs then, not just one city.

My guess is that this won’t even be a blip on the MSM radar tomorrow, except as a club to beat the President for not being magic.
