So, Saddam SAid He Had WMDs and Wanted to Use Them on Us, Huh? That Kind of Sounds Familiar.

Well, yes, it’s pretty darned important that Dick Cheney didn’t hold everyone at the scene of his hunting accident so that David Gregory could race there with a news crew to do a live standup.

Still, this seems like it might be just a little bit important.

(CNSNews.com) – Secret audiotapes of Saddam Hussein discussing ways to attack America with weapons of mass destruction will be the subject of an ABC “Nightline” program Wednesday night, a former federal prosecutor told Cybercast News Service.

The tapes are being called the “smoking gun” of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) in Iraq. The New York Sun reported that the tapes have been authenticated and currently are being reviewed by the U.S. House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.

The panel’s chairman, Rep. Peter Hoekstra (R-Mich.), declined to give the Sun details of the content or context of the recordings, saying only that they were provided to his committee by former federal prosecutor John Loftus.

Loftus has been tight-lipped about the tapes, telling the Sun only that he received them from a “former American military intelligence analyst.” However, on Wednesday he told Cybercast News Service, “Saddam’s tapes confirm he had active CW [chemical weapons] and BW [biological weapons] programs that were hidden from the UN.”

On Tuesday night, Loftus told Cybercast News Service that ABC’s “Nightline” would air an “extensive report” on the tapes Wednesday night. Loftus also described an ABC News “teaser,” which reportedly contains audio of Saddam Hussein discussing ways to attack America with WMD. “Nightline will have a lot more,” said Loftus.

Becaus, you know, such tapes would completely destroy both the “Bush Lied” and the “Even if Bush Didn’t Lie, Saddam Was No Threat” arguments in an instant.

And give me the warmest, fuzziest feeling of petty vindication I’ve ever felt.

Believe me, the ridicule will be hot and it’s a target-rich environment.

Ace also has the story of another Iraqi military officer who says that piles of WMDs went to Syria. Not like I haven’t been saying that pretty much since I started this blog.

It might just be time to start stretching in preparation of a victory dance. Is that petty of me? Oh you-betcha-boy-howdy it is. Is it unChristian to do the Dance of Derision with Full Pelvic Twitchage in the faces of, say, everyone who gets the dirty Soros cash at Media Matters, or every single Kos Kiddie?

Probably. I can live with that, though. I really can.

Oh, but first, I hear that David Gregory is now upset beause Dick Cheney didn’t send him a Valentine. Expect that to be your front page story tomorrow.

  1. Hube says:

Hmmm… the ABC news website's excerpts are referring to Saddam statements in the mid 90s. That's a long time before 2003. Just sayin', as that's what the rebuttal will most likely be.

  2. Tonight: Iraq’s WMD “Smoking Gun”

Not just weapons of mass destruction, mind you. Weapons of mass destruction that Saddam planned to use in attacks on America.

I'm expecting several rebuttals, Hube, the one you mentioned being probably the main one.

Then again, to believe that one, you'd have to believe that a brief fusillade of cruise missles completely obliterated Saddam's WMD programs and the experts who worked on them.

  4. Prepare to learn more about Saddams WMD intentions

I blogged last week about several hours of audio tapes that the House Permanent Select Committee was studying which contained conversations with Saddam Hussein regarding weapons of mass destruction. Tonight, via ABCNews Nightline we’ll get to h…
